Fifa has responded to reports of fans breaching security at the England v Croatia World Cup match, which took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. According to eyewitnesses, scores of fans were able to enter the stadium without a ticket, exploiting gaps in the security barriers. However, Fifa has denied any knowledge of the breach, stating that they have 'no indication of fans entering the stadium without a valid match ticket for the game in question'. The official attendance announced for the game was 70,389, just under the 70,649 official capacity confirmed pre-tournament by Fifa. The low-cost ticket initiative, which offered tickets for £45, had been touted as a key selling point for the tournament.
England ultimately emerged victorious in the match, winning 4-2 against Croatia. The win was led by captain Harry Kane, who scored a brace in the first half. However, his goals were cancelled out by Croatia's Martin Baturina and Petar Musa. England's manager, Thomas Tuchel, sternly addressed the team at half-time, and they went on to win the match in the second half, thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
The incident has raised concerns about security at the World Cup, particularly with regards to the low-cost ticket initiative, which has made the tournament more accessible to fans. However, Fifa's denial of any breach suggests that the issue may be overstated.
