Finn Wolfhard is finally unleashing his inner rockstar on the world – and it's a game-changer. The Stranger Things heartthrob has just dropped his debut album 'Fire From The Hip', a sizzling hot mix of musical storytelling that proves he's more than just a TV kid with a mean guitar riff.
Speaking from a London studio, Wolfhard explained how many of the tracks on 'Fire From The Hip' were penned last year. He spilled the beans on his new songwriting approach: "I was experimenting with writing little stories – songs that were less personal and more about people or characters." This radical change in direction is what gives the album its unique DIY feel, crafting a collection of narrative vignettes that's both intimate and utterly imaginative.
The album's show-stopping cover art is pure genius. Wolfhard described it as "a mash-up of Wes Anderson whimsy and the epic grandeur of 'Barry Lyndon'". He rocks up in a colonial-slash-pirate getup, locked in a metaphorical duel with himself – a visual representation of the eternal struggle between public persona and private self. It's a theme he revisits throughout the album, drawing on influences like country, courtesy of his bandmates from Kentucky and Illinois, as well as early Wilco and The Rolling Stones.
Wolfhard also reminisced about his UK tour stops in October – Glasgow's King Tut's Wah Wah Hut and London's Electric Brixton. These iconic venues have played host to some of the biggest names in music over the years, making them a fitting backdrop for Wolfhard's return to the live stage.
But 'Fire From The Hip' isn't just about the music – it's about the man behind it too. Wolfhard spilled some tea on his upcoming film project with The Replacements and even shared a hilarious anecdote about a failed audition for the role of George Harrison in Sam Mendes' Beatles biopics.
