England's Wheelchair Rugby League squad, featuring five players from the 2022 World Cup-winning team, is set to travel to Australia this autumn to defend their trophy. Rob Hawkins, Wheelchair Super League's top try-scorer this season with 70 tries, is among the returning champions.
Hawkins, who scored four tries in Halifax Panthers' recent Grand Final victory, is joined by club-mates Jack Brown and Finlay O'Neill. Brown scored six tries in the Grand Final. Lewis King, who will captain England, Joe Coyd, and Nathan Collins also return from the squad that triumphed in Manchester in November 2022.
The 10-player squad also includes Tristan Norfolk, Mason Billington, Luis Domingos, and Chris Haynes. England's opening match is against Wales on Friday, 30 October, followed by games against the USA on Tuesday, 3 November, and Ireland on Friday, 6 November. The tournament's semi-finals are scheduled for the following Tuesday, with the final on Friday, 13 November.
England head coach Tom Coyd, who led the team to their previous World Cup success, stated that "Every player understands what it means to wear the England shirt and the responsibility that comes with it." The squad is scheduled to fly out to Australia on 22 October.
