Five-year-old Jaxon has been honoured for his quick thinking after calling 999 when his mother, Stacey, fell down the stairs and became unconscious. Jaxon, who was at home in Dudley with his three-year-old brother, was able to provide his address to the emergency services.
His mother had begun vomiting and experienced slurred speech after regaining consciousness. Police officers were the first to arrive, climbing over a back gate to provide first aid before paramedics reached the scene.
Jaxon was presented with a chief constable's young person's award for his courage and bravery by Deputy Chief Constable Jen Mattinson at a West Midlands Police awards evening earlier in July. He also received a bike, bought by his parents, and tickets to the force's police museum from the Stourbridge Neighbourhood Team.
Stacey expressed pride in Jaxon, hoping other children will learn not to fear calling the police in emergencies. Ch Supt Gill Davenport of Dudley Police highlighted the importance of educating children about when and how to use 999, praising Jaxon for remaining calm and knowing his address in a distressing situation.
