Flipkart Minutes approaches India's quick-commerce leaders with 1.2 million daily orders

Walmart-owned Flipkart's quick-commerce service, Flipkart Minutes, is now delivering up to 1.2 million orders daily in India, two years after its launch. This growth positions it close to established market leaders like Swiggy's Instamart.

  • Flipkart Minutes, launched in August 2024, delivers 1.1 million to 1.2 million orders daily.
  • The service's daily order volume has nearly tripled since November, when it was around 390,000 to 400,000.
  • Flipkart Minutes operates 1,020 to 1,050 micro-fulfillment centers, up from 600 in January.

Flipkart Minutes, the quick-commerce venture of Walmart-owned Flipkart, is now delivering between 1.1 million and 1.2 million orders daily in India. This volume marks a significant increase from approximately 390,000 to 400,000 orders per day in November, two years after its debut in August 2024.

The service is narrowing the gap with established quick-commerce players such as Swiggy’s Instamart, which handles around 1.4 million orders daily. Blinkit remains the market leader with 3.4 million to 3.6 million daily orders, followed by Zepto at 2.4 million to 2.6 million, according to Datum Intelligence.

Flipkart has expanded its delivery infrastructure, increasing its micro-fulfillment centers to between 1,020 and 1,050, up from 600 in January. The company aims to reach 1,500 such facilities by the end of 2026. Average delivery times for Minutes have also decreased to about 11 minutes, down from 13 minutes a year ago.

Amazon is also expanding its quick-commerce service, Amazon Now, in India. The company stated in June that Now is its fastest-growing business in the country, with orders doubling each quarter since its launch.

Why this matters: The rapid growth of Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now highlights an intensifying competition in India's quick-commerce market, as consumers increasingly expect instant delivery for groceries and everyday goods.
