Ford CEO Jim Farley has referred to the introduction of the Fathom and its Universal EV platform as a "Model T moment" for the company. The Fathom is designed as a compact pickup truck and is expected to offer more interior space than the Maverick, along with a frunk for additional closed storage.
While the Fathom is entering a niche market, its potential for widespread success is uncertain. Sales of Ford's Maverick compact truck reached 155,000 last year, which was brisk but not a blockbuster.
