Ford's new electric truck Fathom starts at $28,350

Ford has announced its next-generation electric truck will be called Fathom, with a starting price of $28,350 before fees, and deliveries are due to begin in fall 2027.

  • Ford's new electric truck, Fathom, will start at $28,350, with a destination fee bringing the total to $29,945.
  • The Fathom is the first vehicle built on Ford's new Universal EV Platform and will be assembled in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Deliveries are scheduled for fall 2027, with the truck's full reveal expected in early 2027.

Ford has announced its next-generation electric truck will be called Fathom, with a starting price of $28,350. A destination and delivery fee brings the total to $29,945, placing it just below the $30,000 target Ford has aimed for since 2025.

The Fathom is the first vehicle built on Ford's new Universal EV Platform, which is designed to cut costs through a new assembly line process. The truck will be manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky, and represents a major bet for the automaker as it seeks to catch up with Tesla and Chinese EV makers.

Ford said on Thursday that deliveries will begin in fall 2027, and the truck's design will not be revealed until early 2027, when pre-orders will open. The Fathom will have five seats, a large touch screen, a digital car key, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, though it will not support Apple's next-generation CarPlay Ultra.

Every Fathom will be BlueCruise-capable, with a newer version of Ford's hands-free driver assistance system that is expected to eventually handle supervised driving from start to finish. The starting price includes a standard range lithium iron phosphate battery pack, but Ford has not yet disclosed the truck's driving range.

Why this matters: The Fathom's sub-$30,000 starting price puts it in a market segment with few competitors, potentially making electric trucks more accessible to mainstream buyers.

What this means for you: If you are considering an electric pickup, the Fathom's starting price of $28,350 (plus fees) makes it one of the more affordable options announced, though its range and final design are not yet known.
