Former Elbow drummer Richard Jupp is now using his drumming skills to help others in addiction recovery, a decade after he chose sobriety and stepped away from the band.
Mr Jupp, who spent nearly 30 years with the Manchester-formed group, formally left in 2016 after deciding the music industry lifestyle, which he said normalised drinking and drugs, was no longer working for him. He stated that choosing sobriety meant walking away from a life that had given him fame, success, and financial security.
Since leaving Elbow, Mr Jupp has been teaching drumming, focusing on the instrument's physical, cognitive, and emotional benefits. He holds sessions at his Manchester Drum Studio and teaches at institutions including the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and dBs Institute Manchester.
Mr Jupp is scheduled to take his drumming workshop to Delamere Health clinic, an addiction rehabilitation centre in Cheshire. He hopes to share the power of drumming, routine, and rhythm with individuals beginning their recovery journey.
