Jordon Ibe's promising football career has been marred by a disturbing incident of domestic violence, as the former Premier League winger admitted to assaulting his ex-partner, Amie Mayson. The 30-year-old, who played for Liverpool and AFC Bournemouth among other clubs, changed his plea to guilty at Croydon Magistrates' Court, having initially denied the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in March.
The altercation took place on 14 December outside Ms Mayson's home in Lambeth, south London. According to prosecutors, Ibe was carrying a bag containing drinks, snacks, and flowers when the situation escalated. It is alleged that Ms Mayson threw muffins on the floor and called Ibe a "druggy," prompting him to grab her by her hair, pulling out a braid and leaving her with a bald patch.
Ms Mayson's victim impact statement revealed the devastating effects of the attack on her mental well-being. She described how it had deeply impacted her confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth, adding that even simple tasks like looking in the mirror were now a source of distress due to the constant reminder of what happened.
Ibe, who represented England at under-21 level, confirmed his personal details and changed his plea during the court appearance. District Judge Polly Gledhill indicated that the court was considering a community order and requested a pre-sentence report. She urged Ibe to be "as honest and open" as possible with probation services ahead of his sentencing.
Ibe's footballing career has seen him make 58 appearances for Liverpool after joining in 2012, followed by 92 appearances for AFC Bournemouth between 2016 and 2020. He also had spells at Derby County and Birmingham City before moving to Bulgarian First League side Lokomotiv Sofia in November 2025. Ibe was previously arrested by the Metropolitan Police on 30 January and granted bail with conditions, including not contacting Ms Mayson or attending her address.
