Former X Factor contestant and Union J pop group member, JJ Hamblett, is preparing to return to horse racing at Doncaster Racecourse on 11 September. Hamblett, 38, will take part in The Leger Legends race, which raises money for charities including the Injured Jockeys Fund and Jack Berry House.
Hamblett, who grew up in Newmarket, gained his jockey licence at 16 and made his first competitive appearance at Doncaster Racecourse in 2005. He rode 23 winners over five seasons as an apprentice jockey under trainer Sir Michael Stoute.
Other riders confirmed for the race include Gary Bardwell, Sammy Jo Bell, Joe Fanning and Andrew Tinkler. Frankie Dettori, who was scheduled to participate, pulled out following a car crash in July.
Hamblett has been trained by John and Thady Gosden at Clarehaven Stables in Newmarket in preparation for the event. He stated he would find out which horse he would ride on Monday.
