Former West Ham United striker Michail Antonio's driving woes continue, as he prepares to face court again over allegations he failed to disclose the identity of the driver behind the wheel of his Lamborghini when it was clocked speeding in Birmingham city centre last year. The incident has led to a fresh hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court, scheduled for March 2, after District Judge Monroe agreed to rehear the case following Antonio's explanation that he was absent from the initial hearing due to being in Qatar, recovering from injuries sustained in a severe car crash.
Initially found guilty in his absence earlier this year, Antonio claims that at the time of the alleged offence in March 2025, the Lamborghini had been handed over to a car company to arrange its sale. He also asserts that due to being in hospital for three weeks following the December 2024 crash, which left him with a broken femur, he was unable to drive during this period.
The 36-year-old's driving record is already tarnished, with six points on his licence including a penalty for driving without insurance at the time of the December 2024 accident. A further conviction in relation to this case could result in another six penalty points being added, potentially leading to an automatic driving ban.
The speeding Lamborghini was reportedly caught on Lee Bank Middleway and Belgrave Middleway, with Antonio now having the opportunity to present his defence in greater detail following the decision by Judge Monroe to set aside the previous conviction. The outcome of this hearing will be closely watched by those interested in the case.
