Four arrested in gangland violence inquiry, total arrests reach 81

Police have arrested four men as part of an ongoing investigation into gangland violence, bringing the total number of arrests in Operation Portaledge to 81.

  • Warrants were executed in Bellshill and Motherwell, and four stolen vehicles were recovered.
  • One 29-year-old man was charged in connection with a car crashing into a house in Eaglesham on 21 August.

Police have arrested four men as part of an ongoing investigation into gangland violence, bringing the total number of arrests in Operation Portaledge to 81. The arrests were made during a pre-planned "day of action" on Friday.

Warrants were executed at addresses in Bellshill and Motherwell, and four stolen vehicles were recovered. One of the men arrested, a 29-year-old, was charged after a car crashed into a house in Eaglesham on Friday 21 August. He is due to appear in court on Monday.

A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a disturbance in Kirkintilloch on Tuesday 18 August and a wilful fireraising in the same area on Saturday 22 August. A second 21-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with the wilful fireraising on 22 August.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a wilful fire-raising of a car in Glasgow on Monday 6 April. Police said extensive inquiries remain ongoing, with CCTV footage being examined and forensic analysis carried out.
