Four people have been arrested in South Africa following the murder of boxing champion Zolani Tete, who was shot dead outside his home on Friday. Tete, 38, was gunned down in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, in what has been described as an ambush. A young woman who was with him was also shot and is currently in hospital.
One of the arrested men, aged 22, is scheduled to make an initial court appearance today, Monday, facing charges of murder and attempted murder. He was arrested on Saturday.
The remaining three suspects, who were arrested on Sunday, are due in court on Tuesday. Two of these individuals have been charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. It is currently unclear if they will also face murder and attempted murder charges.
Officials stated that Tete was in his car, waiting for his gate to open, when two armed suspects in balaclavas emerged from a vehicle and fired multiple shots at him and a 27-year-old female passenger.
