Four men have been formally charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Arad Niakan in Leicester last week. Mr Niakan tragically died after sustaining stab wounds on Wednesday in De Montfort Place, an area located off London Road, as confirmed by Leicestershire Police.
The individuals facing murder charges are Talha Satar, 21, from Stoughton Street South, Spinney Hills; Said Mahamed, 20, of Sparkenhoe Street, Spinney Hills; Husni Benramadan, 19, who is of no fixed address; and Yousouf Khan, 18, also of no fixed address. In addition to the murder charge, all four men have been charged with one count of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, as well as one count of possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place.
Separately, a fifth man, Kassam Tarmahoomed, 21, has been charged with assisting an offender in connection with the ongoing investigation. All five men are scheduled to appear before Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday to face these charges.
Leicestershire Police have also provided updates on other individuals who were arrested as part of their enquiries. Two men, aged 52, and two women, aged 43, who were initially arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have since been released on bail. Furthermore, a 33-year-old man who had been arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without any further action being taken against him.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting ongoing concerns about knife crime and violence in urban areas. Police continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as the judicial process begins.
