France has opened disciplinary proceedings against its ambassador to the Central African Republic (CAR), Bruno Foucher, over allegations of misconduct. The action follows claims that dozens of women were brought into his official residence, prompting potential security concerns.
The French foreign ministry stated that an administrative investigation was conducted in Bangui in 2026. Upon receiving the findings, and at the request of the minister, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the ambassador. These proceedings are currently ongoing.
According to the French weekly newspaper Le Canard enchaîné, Mr Foucher, 65, reportedly brought approximately 30 women, aged between 20 and 30, into his residence from January 2024 to March 2026, with some staying overnight. The ambassador reportedly acknowledged having sexual relations with two young women.
This investigation occurs as Paris aims to improve relations with CAR, which have deteriorated in recent years amid Russia's growing influence in the former French colony.
