Renowned electronic music producer Fred Again.. is scheduled to host a series of free production workshops for trans+ musicians this Friday in London. The event, taking place at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, forms part of the Trans+ Future Sounds initiative, a new programme developed by the Trans* Creative Collective. Its primary goal is to create fresh opportunities and provide support for trans artists within the music industry.
The workshops, announced earlier this week, are being organised in collaboration with We Are Moving The Needle, a non-profit organisation founded by Emily Lazar. This group is dedicated to advocating for women, non-binary, and trans producers and engineers. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to fostering greater inclusivity and diversity in music production, an area that has historically seen significant underrepresentation from these communities.
Fred Again.. will lead the sessions, supported by a line-up of special guests including Sans Soucis, MESSIE, and Trans Voices. Organisers have stated that the initiative aims to "facilitate and support producers and writers from the trans and queer community to become the innovative leading producers the industry needs." This objective comes at a critical juncture, as a recent report from We Are Moving The Needle highlighted that only 2.3 per cent of producers identify as women, trans, or non-binary.
The Trans* Creative Collective, established in 2021, has been actively working to build an international community for trans+ creatives through various programmes, including workshops, mentoring, social events, and industry partnerships. Their efforts have garnered recognition, with the organisation being featured in the UK Music Diversity Report as an exemplary campaign driving positive change within the industry.
