French President Emmanuel Macron condemned "unbridled violence" and riots that occurred in French cities over the weekend. On Sunday evening, he delivered a televised speech following the unrest.

Reports described rioters burning makeshift barricades in Paris, destroying the steeple of Limoges' town hall, and setting fire to Lyon's tourism office. By Sunday, protests had also spread to Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

In Paris, cleaners removed debris from streets in the early hours of Sunday, including shards of glass and burned-out cars. The Socialist deputy mayor of Paris, Lamia El Aaraje, stated the capital experienced an unprecedented level of violence.

A total of 2,400 people were arrested across France, with 855 arrests made in Paris. While a smaller group engaged in violence and looting, hundreds of thousands of people, including schoolchildren and parents, participated in peaceful marches across the country on Saturday.
