Frome Birth Talk, a charity offering counselling to new mothers, may be forced to close its waiting list unless it secures £10,000 in urgent funding by Sunday. The organisation supported over 155 mothers in 2026.

Charity director Suzy Cristinacce stated that they will have to reduce support without the necessary funds. She noted that approximately 50% of the charity's funding comes from grants, but these are reportedly becoming harder to secure.

Sarah N'Guio, who received counselling from Frome Birth Talk, described the support as life-saving after experiencing a traumatic birth and subsequent mental health challenges, including postpartum depression.

The Royal College of Midwives reports that around one in four new mothers may face a mental health issue after childbirth. A spokesperson for Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath confirmed that other support options are available for women in the area, including an NHS pathway for referral to the RUH perinatal mental health team.

Why this matters: The potential closure of Frome Birth Talk's waiting list could affect new mothers seeking mental health support, at a time when about one in four new mums reportedly face mental health issues after giving birth.
