Gary Lineker is about to take centre stage in a whole new way - not just commentating on the action, but living it! The 65-year-old broadcasting legend has dropped a bombshell, revealing he's set to become a grandfather for the first time. He spilled the beans during an episode of his Netflix podcast 'The Rest is Football', where guest Gordon Ramsay was sharing tales of his own family adventures.
When Lineker jokingly quipped, "We've got one other thing in common, we're both about to be grandparents for the first time," Ramsay's eyes lit up with excitement - not least because his daughter Holly Ramsay Peaty is expecting a baby with Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty. And Lineker was only too happy to poke fun at his friend's paternal pride: "You've got little kids anyway, haven't you? But it is different when you can give them back, I think."
This new chapter in Lineker's life is a personal one - and not just because he's about to trade his punditry skills for nappy-changing duty. The father of four (George, Harry, Tobias, and Angus) will be adding another little Lineker to the family tree, although we won't know which son's expecting until it's officially announced.
It's a busy time for the TV veteran, who's just finished a stint commentating on ITV's World Cup coverage (where he even managed a cheeky dig at his former employers, the BBC). He's also lined up to host ITV game show 'The Box' later this year. And after stepping down from his role at the Beeb in May last year following that infamous social media controversy, it's clear Lineker's still got plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
So here's to Gary Lineker - football legend, broadcasting icon, and soon-to-be-grandfather extraordinaire! His candid sharing of this personal milestone on a platform like Netflix is just another example of how public figures are redefining the way they connect with their audience.
