Gay's 141 leads Durham to strong start against Lancashire

England opener Emilio Gay powered Durham to a dominant position on day one of their County Championship Division Two match against Lancashire, scoring a stylish 141. The visitors closed play at Emirates Old Trafford on 355-5.

Gay's high-class century marked his fourth in 10 Championship innings this season. He built significant partnerships, first adding 114 runs with Ben McKinney, who made 71 and surpassed 1,000 first-class runs for the season. Gay then combined with Mayank Agarwal for a 168-run stand before being caught for 141.

Despite a tough day for Lancashire's bowlers, they managed to claim three wickets in the evening session. Noman Ali finished the day with figures of 2-110. Ollie Robinson and Kasey Aldridge steered Durham to a third bonus point by the close of play.
