Pupils across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are set to receive their GCSE, BTec, and other Level 2 results on Thursday. While schools and colleges will issue grades in person, a new app will offer an additional way for some students in England to view their results.
From 11:00 BST on Thursday, pupils at over 750 secondary schools in England will be able to access their grades on their phones through the Education Record app. The Department for Education (DfE) states that students will still collect their results in envelopes from school first.
The DfE intends for the app to maintain a record of results for colleges and future employers, which the government hopes will decrease paperwork for both students and teachers. This year marks the third year that grading standards have returned to pre-pandemic levels across all three nations.
The government in England is also planning to enhance technical education and address the increasing number of English and Maths GCSE resits. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced plans for schools and colleges in England to offer subjects like manufacturing and AI from Year 10, alongside core academic learning.
