A US judge in Georgia has sentenced a teenager to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a school shooting that killed two students and two teachers.
Colt Gray, 16, pleaded guilty on Friday to 55 counts, including murder, in connection with the 4 September 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School. Gray was 14 years old at the time of the incident and was charged as an adult.
Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm handed down the sentence after hearing from victims' families, investigators, and other parties. The minimum penalty for murder in Georgia is life with the possibility of parole, but Judge Primm decided Gray should never be eligible for release.
The victims of the shooting were teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, and students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14. Another teacher and eight students were wounded, with seven hit by gunfire.
