Fifa President Gianni Infantino has denied claims that Uefa paid a six-figure sum to a woman with whom he allegedly had a relationship during his time at European football's governing body. An investigation by The Telegraph reported that Uefa paid the sum to the woman, who allegedly had a relationship with Infantino, who is married with four children.
Infantino served at Uefa for 16 years, including as general secretary from 2009 to 2016, a period during which the alleged payment was made. Uefa has confirmed that "a departure payment was made to the individual in question," along with the payment of fees for an MBA course at a business school.
A Uefa spokesman stated that the payment was "in line with the regulations that existed for departing staff at the time." However, Uefa also noted that such regulations have been tightened since 2016. A Fifa spokesperson reportedly told The Telegraph that Infantino "strongly denies these allegations, and they are categorically untrue."
