Gianni Infantino has reaffirmed his intention to seek re-election as Fifa president, despite ongoing controversy surrounding his governance. A Fifa spokesperson stated that Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election, reiterating an announcement made in April.
Infantino is facing pressure to resign after attempting to sell stakes in Fifa tournaments, including the World Cup, to private investors. The European governing body Uefa has led calls for him to step down, with additional opposition from the Asian confederation and the organisation representing countries in North and Central America plus the Caribbean.
Uefa has pledged to collaborate with other federations to identify a credible alternative candidate if Infantino stands at the Fifa congress in March.
