A recent evaluation of the Building Digital UK (BDUK) Hub intervention indicates that connecting remote public buildings, such as GP surgeries and other healthcare sites, to gigabit-capable broadband is linked to changes in service delivery. The intervention was delivered through the Rural Gigabit Connectivity (RGC) Programme and Project Gigabit.
The report, commissioned by BDUK and carried out by Belmana and GC Insight, identified evidence consistent with broadband connectivity having a causal effect on service delivery. This was demonstrated through measurable changes in appointment modes and attendance at these sites.
While the quantifiable impacts were described as modest, qualitative evidence within the report suggests broader transformation across care pathways and service delivery models.
