Glasgow homes sell fastest in UK, averaging 11 days on market

Homes in Glasgow are selling in an average of 11 days, making it the fastest-selling city in the UK, according to new figures.

  • Glasgow, Worcester, and Belfast are the fastest-selling cities for homes in the UK.
  • The average property across the UK spends 30 days on the market.
  • The time to sell a flat or apartment has increased by 34% in the last 12 months.

Homes in Glasgow are typically agreeing sales in just 11 days, making it the fastest-selling city in the UK. This data comes from property management software provider Alto, which gathers information from over 6,000 estate agents nationwide.

Worcester and Belfast also saw quick sales, with many properties in these cities selling in under two weeks. In contrast, the national average for a property to spend on the market is 30 days, a figure matched by London, which ranked 21st among the cities analysed. Wakefield recorded the longest selling times, with homes spending an average of 63 days on the market.

Terraced and semi-detached homes were the fastest-selling property types across the country, with offers generally agreed 26 days after listing. Detached properties took longer to sell, averaging 41 days to agree an offer, while retirement and sheltered accommodation properties, and park and mobile homes, took 98 and 96 days respectively.

The data also indicated an increase in the time taken to sell certain property types. The number of days to agree an offer on a flat or apartment has risen by 34% in the last 12 months, from 29 to 39 days. Similarly, one-bed or studio properties now take 42 days to sell, an increase of 31% from 32 days.

Why this matters: The speed of property sales can indicate local market demand and pricing strategies, with faster sales often suggesting a competitive market for buyers.

What this means for you: If you are selling a home, particularly in Glasgow, pricing it accurately from the start could be crucial, as the first fortnight on the market is often the most important for securing an offer.
