Glimpse has launched a new product called Explore, which allows hardware companies to accelerate quality control checks using their existing CT scanners. The image processing software is designed for use in labs and development environments across various industries, including aerospace, automotive, electronics, and medical devices.
According to Eric Moch, co-founder and CEO of Glimpse, the company's software can inspect battery cells 10 to 30 times faster by significantly increasing the throughput of existing CT scanners. This could enable manufacturers to scan tens of thousands of cells daily, a substantial increase from current capabilities. Glimpse is also developing a "super scanner" with partners that could complete a scan in one to two seconds.
The software uses deep learning algorithms and an image processing pipeline to compress and clean scans, with much of the initial processing occurring on edge computers at customer sites. This combination aims to produce clear images that load in a web browser within seconds. Glimpse's dashboard can also display specified part measurements and flag deviations from norms, highlighting potential defects in scanned images.
Glimpse currently serves over 100 customers, including Anker, Lucid, and the U.S. Navy, and generates revenue in the "mid seven-figure" range. For customers without their own CT scanners, Glimpse offers a Scan On Demand service from its Boston area facility and plans to open a second center in the San Francisco Bay Area.
