The memoir is described as a follow-up to 'My Life on the Road', published a decade ago. It explores Steinem's early life, including her childhood with a travelling salesman father and her role as a carer for her mentally unwell mother.
Steinem writes about learning to survive and her gratitude for a life that was both happier and longer than she had imagined. The book also touches on her financial struggles, noting she did not save money until after fifty and was still paying off her mortgage into her 80s.
