Glorious Goodwood day five: Stewards' Cup tips and best bets

Saturday marks day five of Glorious Goodwood, headlined by the Coral Stewards' Cup. Four selections are offered, including West Acre at 25/1 in the big handicap.

  • The Stewards' Cup takes centre stage on day five of Glorious Goodwood.
  • West Acre is tipped each-way at 25/1 in the Stewards' Cup.
  • Wild Desert, Al Wathba and Shafdar are the other selections.

Saturday is day five of Glorious Goodwood, with the Coral Stewards' Cup (15.35) the feature race. The Heritage Handicap is one of the most prestigious sprint handicaps of the season, and this year's renewal looks typically competitive.

Last year's winner Two Tribes returns from stall 13, 9lb higher, but his trainer Richard Spencer has already won a 23-runner handicap at the meeting this week. The market leader Far Above Dream is respected, being well drawn and 3-3 at the track, but favourites have won only twice in the last decade.

The tip is West Acre (25/1 each-way, William Hill), representing George Scott, who has already had a winner at the meeting. West Acre won a Meydan Group 3 on fast ground last year and has a good record when fresh.

In the Phase Eight Handicap (16.10), Wild Desert (13/2 each-way) is the selection for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby, a classy colt who was third in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes and second in the Group 1 Summer Stakes last year. He tackles a handicap for the first time.

Al Wathba (9/4 win, bet365) is tipped in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (16.45), having finished under 2l behind Haffner on debut, while Shafdar (16/1 each-way) is the pick in the Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap (17.20).

What this means for you: If you are betting on Saturday's Glorious Goodwood races, these four selections offer potential each-way and win opportunities.
