The UK National Mountainboard Championships are taking place this weekend at Bugsboarding Mountainboarding Centre in Maisemore, Gloucestershire. The centre, located just two miles from Gloucester, is the nation's sole remaining mountainboarding facility.
Nina Bubb has spent 23 years transforming what was once an empty field into a purpose-built track for the sport. The site initially hosted scrambler bikes but transitioned to mountainboarding after noise complaints. Bubb noted that while 11 centres existed before Covid, many have since closed.
Despite the closures, interest in mountainboarding is reportedly growing, especially following skateboarding's inclusion in the Olympic Games. Amon Shaw, a local rider who recently secured first place in the downhill competition at the world championships in South Africa, described Bugsboarding as a "hub" for the sport. Margaux Rowland, the 2025 freestyle champion from Bordeaux, is also among the international enthusiasts attending the championships, praising the centre's features.
