Google announced new study tools across its Search and Gemini platforms on Wednesday. These features aim to assist students with learning and studying, introducing AI-generated interactive visuals, 3D simulations, and customised practice quizzes.
In Google Search, students can now generate custom tools and simulations to understand complex topics. For example, searching for "pH scale" can produce an interactive visual in an AI Overview. Follow-up questions, such as plotting citrus fruits on the pH scale, can lead to tailored interactive experiences.
Users can also access customised practice quizzes directly in Search for various subjects, including science, maths, humanities, and foreign languages. Additionally, Lens in Search will introduce an interactive learning experience in the coming weeks, allowing students to upload photos of problems to receive AI explanations, identify mistakes, and get guidance.
For Gemini, new features include the ability to launch multi-step research reports in Gemini Live, with users receiving notifications when reports are ready for conversational discussion. Gemini can also generate functional 3D simulations, allowing users to interactively explore topics like DNA structures.
A dedicated hub is also being launched within the Gemini app, bringing together learning tools such as study notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes in one place. These updates are part of Google's ongoing efforts to position Gemini as a primary AI assistant for students, competing with other companies in the education technology sector.
