Govee has launched a new high-end kitchen appliance, the GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro, designed to cater to a niche but growing market of consumers who prioritise the type of ice in their drinks. This smart gadget, retailing at around £395 (based on a $500 US price), promises to deliver the sought-after 'nugget ice' – known for its soft, chewable texture often found in fast-food outlets and upscale beverage establishments – directly into homes.
The appliance boasts impressive specifications, capable of producing nugget ice in as little as six minutes, with a daily output of up to 60 pounds. Its 3.5-pound ice basket automatically replenishes as ice is used, ensuring a continuous supply. Govee has integrated smart home capabilities, allowing users to control the ice maker through the GoveeHome app, which enables remote operation and scheduling, perfect for ensuring ice is ready for a morning coffee or an evening cocktail.
Beyond app control, the GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro also supports voice commands via popular assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, adding a layer of convenience for hands-free operation. The device incorporates what Govee calls 'AI NoiseGuard technology,' designed to minimise operational noise to approximately 40 dB. This system also initiates automatic defrosting cycles to maintain quiet operation and consistent ice production.
A distinctive feature, characteristic of Govee products, is the customisable ambient lighting. The ice basket is illuminated by an adjustable light, offering various presets and user-defined lighting effects through the GoveeHome app. This allows owners to personalise the aesthetic of the appliance, from subtle glows to more dynamic colour changes, adding a 'fun visual element' to the kitchen counter.
However, potential buyers should note the appliance's considerable size and weight. Measuring 17.28 inches deep, 13.98 inches wide, and 17.01 inches tall, and weighing 50 pounds, it requires significant counter space. Its sleek design, while modern, might appear bulky in smaller kitchens. The setup is described as straightforward, though its weight might necessitate assistance for placement and cleaning.
