The Government has appointed Leila D’Aronville and Lizzie Crump as its new Freelance Champions, tasked with representing the creative industries' 703,000 self-employed workers. These appointments aim to integrate freelancers' voices into government policy-making for the sector.
Both D’Aronville and Crump are freelancers themselves, bringing a combined 40 years of experience. They will advocate for the self-employed, working to ensure their perspectives shape future policy and address findings from the Good Work Review, which highlighted concerns regarding job quality for freelancers.
The Freelance Champions will also sit on the Creative Industries Council, a joint industry and government forum. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stated that the appointments aim to provide fulfilment and support for freelancers in their careers.
