The government has admitted it has not carried out any assessment of the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) by tenants to help them challenge landlords and letting agents.
Housing Minister Baroness Taylor of Stevenage stated in a written parliamentary answer that ministers have not examined the role AI is playing in housing disputes. This response was given to a question from Lord Taylor of Warwick, who asked what assessment the government had made regarding AI use by tenants in such disputes.
Baroness Taylor of Stevenage added that government-approved property agent redress schemes operate independently and are responsible for their own complaint-handling processes, including how they accommodate material prepared using AI. The department will continue to monitor developments in this area through its oversight of the schemes and other data sources.
