The UK government has announced over £7 million in funding to support the development of zero-emission flights. Approximately £7.3 million will be used to advance hydrogen-powered planes and electric aircraft, according to the Department for Transport.
This investment will assist eight British companies in developing the necessary infrastructure for green flights to operate from UK airports. Projects include integrating flying taxis into UK skies, with up to £3.2 million allocated to Beta technology and Vertical Aerospace to demonstrate how their aircraft can fit into commercial airport operations.
The funding is part of a larger £43 million package aimed at developing next-generation aviation technology. Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, stated that this initiative brings passengers closer to future flights, creates skilled jobs, supports UK businesses, and promotes economic growth.
