The UK government has launched its Software Security Ambassadors Scheme, designed to encourage the adoption of the Software Security Code of Practice. This voluntary set of principles aims to reduce software supply chain attacks and disruption, thereby improving cyber resilience across the economy.

Weaknesses in software can cause significant disruption to supply chains and essential public services. Reportedly, 59% of organisations experienced software supply chain attacks in the past year. The scheme seeks to address these issues by embedding basic software security practices across the software market.

The Software Security Ambassadors scheme was initially announced on 6 January 2026 as part of the Government Cyber Action Plan, with a ministerial launch event held on 15 January 2026. Industry partners have agreed to work with the government as ambassadors, championing the Code of Practice, showcasing practical implementation, and providing feedback for future policy improvements.

Why this matters: The scheme aims to protect businesses and essential services from cyber disruption by promoting better software security practices.
