Andy Burnham has announced that the government will examine a ban on disposable barbecues. This consideration comes as wildfires persist across the UK.

Disposable barbecues have been identified as the cause of several serious fires over recent years. These include a large woodland fire in Macclesfield, Cheshire, in July 2026, which the Cheshire fire and rescue service attributed to a discarded barbecue. In the same month, the London fire brigade tackled three grass fires, with 6 hectares of heathland damaged in Feltham, urging people not to use disposable barbecues.

In May 2025, a barbecue was understood to have sparked a fire covering 2 hectares in the Glen Finglas region of The Trossachs National Park in Scotland.
