GPS tracking for people on bail, including those suspected of domestic abuse, is scheduled to begin in parts of central Scotland next year. First Minister John Swinney confirmed the plans for a pilot scheme in Tayside, Fife and Central during a Scottish Parliament debate on tackling violence against women.
Swinney announced that regulations to launch the pilot in the Tayside, Central and Fife sheriffdoms, to be led by Sheriff Principal Gillian Anne Wade KC, would be laid before the October recess. Ministers are aiming for the rollout to commence in 2027.
The government also included plans in its annual programme to make permanent a £2m fund that provides practical and financial support to women and children escaping abusive partners. Additionally, multi-year funding for charities offering crisis support to women and girls has been vowed, alongside plans to recognise misogyny as a distinct form of prejudice and abuse.
