Graduates Share College Items That Endured into Adulthood

College graduates have identified items purchased for university life that have proven unexpectedly durable and useful into their adult years.

  • A fleece blanket, under-bed storage, a hammock, a laundry hamper, and a cookware set were among the items cited.
  • Graduates aged 27 to 57 shared their experiences with these long-lasting possessions.

Several college graduates have highlighted everyday items bought for their university dorms that have continued to be valuable well into their adult lives. These include a fleece blanket, an under-bed storage drawer, a hammock, a laundry hamper, and a 10-piece All-Clad copper-core cookware set.

Shannon Melero, 34, who graduated in 2013, noted that her paisley fleece blanket has endured many significant life moments. Stella Gewirz, 27, a 2021 graduate, found her under-bed storage drawer and stepladder surprisingly useful for multiple moves and home organisation.

Sarah Holm, 29, an Ohio University graduate from 2018, still uses a bright yellow, pink, and blue ENO DoubleNest Hammock she bought for her sophomore year. Nikita Khanderia, 24, a 2024 graduate, uses her college laundry hamper for her hospitality and events company, while Diana Budds, 39, a 2008 graduate, continues to use a cookware set gifted to her in her sophomore year.
