Kirsty Priest, a 53-year-old grandmother, has received a third cancer diagnosis in 15 years. She was treated twice for separate cases of breast cancer, 10 years apart, and earlier this year was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
During earlier treatment, Ms Priest discovered she has a mutated CHEK2 gene, which Breast Cancer Trials state can at least double a person's risk of breast cancer. She said the discovery was new to the doctors she saw at the time.
After the successful removal of the brain tumour, Ms Priest said she is "putting my big positive girlie pants on". She will require Herceptin injections every three weeks and MRI scans every three months for the rest of her life, as doctors suspect cancer cells are still present in her body.
Ms Priest has raised £11,500 for the breast cancer ward at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. Friends are organising a charity fundraising night next month at The Fox Inn in Stourton, Staffordshire, for the two hospitals that helped her.
