Great Britain's campaign at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals concluded in the quarter-finals in Shenzhen, following a 2-0 defeat to Czechia.
Sonay Kartal, playing her first match in six months after a back injury, lost to Marie Bouzkova in a match lasting nearly three hours, with a final score of 7-6 (2) 4-6 6-4. Kartal had missed the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open due to the injury.
Katie Boulter then faced Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova, who secured Czechia's victory with a 6-2 7-6 (3) win. The Czech team, led by Noskova, has all players ranked higher than any of Britain's.
This result means Great Britain's bid to lift the trophy for the first time is over for another year, while Czechia will now aim for their seventh title in the competition since 2011.
