At its recent conference in Brighton, the Green Party of England and Wales affirmed a set of policies. Among these were proposals for a wealth tax, which would see a one per cent levy on individual assets exceeding £10m and two per cent on assets above £1bn.
Further economic policies affirmed include aligning Capital Gains Tax rates with income tax and applying National Insurance to investment income. The party also advocated for greater public control of banking and finance, alongside more public investment in essential services, affordable homes, jobs, and the green transition.
The conference also called for a three-year emergency brake on rental costs, aiming to prevent rents from rising above CPI, wage growth, or two per cent, whichever is lowest. This would be followed by a national Fair Rent Guarantee.
