GreenX Metals has commenced its 2026 fieldwork programme at the Eleonore North project in Greenland. The exploration push targets critical mineral deposits amid growing European demand for supply chain security.

  • GreenX Metals begins 2026 fieldwork at Eleonore North project in Greenland.
  • The project is focused on critical minerals, including rare earth elements.
  • Exploration aligns with UK and EU efforts to diversify critical mineral supply chains.

GreenX Metals, an Australian-listed exploration company with a significant UK investor base, has started its 2026 field season at the Eleonore North project in Greenland. The company confirmed the commencement of fieldwork on 23 July 2026, with teams mobilised to the site in the Disko-Nuussuaq region. The programme is designed to advance exploration for critical minerals, including rare earth elements and copper, which are essential for electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defence technologies.

The Eleonore North project is situated in an area known for its geological potential, though previous exploration has been limited by harsh Arctic conditions. This year’s work will include geological mapping, geochemical sampling, and geophysical surveys. GreenX has stated that results will inform a potential drilling campaign in the 2027 season, subject to regulatory approvals and funding.

The news comes as the UK government continues to pursue its Critical Minerals Strategy, published in 2023, which aims to secure supply chains for metals vital to the net-zero transition. Greenland has attracted growing interest from European and North American explorers due to its untapped mineral wealth and geopolitical stability, though environmental and indigenous rights concerns remain.

For UK investors, GreenX Metals shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM market. The stock has seen modest interest from retail and institutional investors who view the project as a long-term bet on the electrification of the economy. Analysts note that the project is at an early stage and carries significant execution risk, including permitting delays and volatile commodity prices.

The fieldwork is expected to continue through the short Arctic summer, with preliminary results anticipated in the autumn. GreenX has not yet provided a specific budget for the 2026 programme, but the company has previously raised capital via placements and share issues to fund exploration.

Why this matters: The UK’s reliance on imported critical minerals makes domestic and allied-nation exploration projects strategically important for economic security and the net-zero transition.

What this means for you: What this means for you: If successful, the project could reduce UK reliance on China for rare earths, potentially lowering costs for green technologies and strengthening national supply chain resilience.
