A runner from Guernsey who travelled 4,000 miles to compete in a marathon in Chicago was surprised by hundreds of strangers cheering him on. Ethan Woodhead, 24, expected to run Sunday's race without any friends or family supporting him along the route.
Unknown to Woodhead, his uncle Phil Woodhead had posted on Facebook, asking people in Chicago to surprise his nephew with support. The post received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments and shares, leading to strangers turning out to cheer.
Woodhead completed the marathon in two hours, 31 minutes and 31 seconds. He stated he was "lost for words" by the unexpected support, which included people screaming his name, confetti, and homemade banners.
