Guggenheim Securities has initiated coverage on Autodesk Inc (NASDAQ: ADSK) with a buy rating, according to a research note published this week. The US investment bank's analysts pointed to the company's leading position in computer-aided design (CAD) software and its transition to a subscription-based revenue model as key drivers for the positive outlook.
Autodesk, best known for its AutoCAD and Revit products, serves architecture, engineering, and construction sectors globally. Guggenheim's initiation reflects confidence in the firm's ability to sustain growth amid increasing digitalisation in infrastructure and building projects. The stock has gained approximately 12% year-to-date, though it remains below its 2021 highs.
For UK investors, the coverage initiation is relevant as many domestic pension funds and investment trusts hold US technology stocks as part of diversified portfolios. Autodesk's performance can influence the net asset value of funds tracking the Nasdaq or S&P 500 indices. The FTSE 100 closed at 8,214.5 on Tuesday, down 0.3%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 0.6% amid broader market caution.
Analysts at Guggenheim did not provide a specific price target in the note, but emphasised Autodesk's recurring revenue streams and high customer retention rates. The company's annual recurring revenue (ARR) has grown steadily, with recent quarterly results showing a 10% year-on-year increase. Competitors such as Dassault Systèmes and Bentley Systems also vie for market share, but Autodesk's broad product ecosystem gives it an edge.
UK shareholders should note that Autodesk's stock is traded on the Nasdaq, meaning currency fluctuations between the US dollar and sterling can affect returns. The pound has strengthened against the dollar recently, trading at $1.29, which could slightly dampen gains for UK-based investors when converting proceeds back to GBP.
