Haaland Scores Champions League Double, Carragher Tips 1000 Career Goals

Erling Haaland scored twice for Manchester City in their Champions League victory over Porto, leading Jamie Carragher to suggest he could reach 1000 career goals.

  • Erling Haaland scored two goals in Manchester City's 2-0 Champions League win against Porto.
  • Haaland has 322 goals in 407 club appearances and 62 goals in 55 international games.
  • Jamie Carragher believes Haaland could surpass 1000 career goals.

Erling Haaland netted a double for Manchester City in their 2-0 Champions League victory over Porto. The 26-year-old's performance has prompted former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher to back him to achieve over 1000 career goals.

Haaland's two goals in the competition opener mean he is now Manchester City's third all-time leading goalscorer. The Norwegian striker has accumulated 322 goals in 407 senior club appearances and 62 goals in 55 games for his country.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Carragher stated, "I just can’t see Haaland not scoring 1000 goals or being the best goalscorer of all time." He added that Haaland's consistent scoring makes his achievements seem less remarkable, despite their significance.

While the record for most goals by a male footballer is debated, with Pelé's claim of over 1000 goals disputed due to unofficial fixtures, Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed 900 goals in 2024. Haaland is set to feature next in the Manchester derby, as City travels to United on Sunday.
