Paramore's lead singer, Hayley Williams, brought her London solo residency to a memorable close by inviting Rhian Teasdale from the acclaimed British indie band Wet Leg onto the stage. The surprise duet saw the two artists perform Williams' track 'Parachute' during the final night of her two-date run at The Roundhouse in Camden, north London, on Saturday, June 20.
This special collaboration was a highlight of Williams' extensive solo tour, 'The Bachelorette Party', which supports her third solo album, 'Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party', released in July of the previous year. The London shows followed a pattern of unexpected guest appearances throughout the tour. On the preceding night, Friday, June 19, Williams delighted fans by performing a cover of Prefab Sprout's 'Wild Horses' with Romy Madley Croft of The xx, another prominent British artist.
Williams expressed her gratitude to the audience, noting that the tour was nearing its end. "We are only six shows away from wrapping up ‘The Bachelorette Party’ tour," she stated before the final song. "It’s been fun, it has felt like a wedding and a funeral every night. Thanks for supporting these albums, I appreciate you." Teasdale, initially seen enthusiastically singing along from the side of the stage, then joined Williams for backing vocals and headbanging, adding an energetic close to the 22-song setlist.
The camaraderie between Williams and Teasdale is not new. Williams has openly shared her admiration for Wet Leg, and the two musicians previously engaged in a podcast discussion in 2022 where they spoke about the challenges and sexist comments faced by female artists in the music industry, particularly concerning playing guitar on stage. This shared history underscores the significance of their joint performance.
Beyond London, Williams' 'The Bachelorette Party' tour has featured a roster of notable guest artists, including Jenny Lewis and Julien Baker during her Los Angeles show last month, as well as Jack Antonoff, Bethany Cosentino, and Jay Som. Following her impactful London performances, Williams continued her UK leg with shows in Manchester on June 22 and 23, and is scheduled to perform in Glasgow on Friday, June 26, offering further opportunities for fans across the country to experience her solo work.
