The UK Health Security Agency has sounded a warning about the rising temperatures across England, with parts of the country set to hit 30C by this weekend. The Met Office forecasts show that regions including London, the South East, and the West Midlands are bracing themselves for a significant heatwave.
According to the UKHSA, vulnerable groups such as older people, those with underlying health conditions, and young children will be most at risk from the heat. The agency has issued a yellow heat health alert, which is in effect from 9:00 BST on Friday until 21:00 BST on Sunday.
Temperatures are expected to soar across much of England, with highs in the high 20s and isolated spots potentially reaching 30C. In contrast, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are forecast to be cooler, with temperatures ranging from the high teens to low 20s.
Residents are being advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, seek shade during the hottest parts of the day, and check on vulnerable friends and neighbours to ensure they are coping with the heat. While no wind warnings have been issued, light breezes are expected in some areas.
The Met Office continues to monitor weather patterns closely and will issue further warnings if conditions intensify. A yellow alert indicates that community actions are required to protect those most at risk, but if health impacts worsen, higher alert levels could be triggered.
