  • Suppliers have voluntarily agreed to provide compensation to eligible customers.

Hundreds of heating oil customers are set to receive compensation after their orders were cancelled by suppliers during a period of surging prices and restricted supply. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) initiated a consumer protection review into the supply of heating oil in March 2026, following concerns linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

The CMA's review found that some heating oil suppliers cancelled orders for customers who had purchased through intermediary sites. This occurred when heating oil prices significantly increased and supply was temporarily limited, potentially leading to breaches of contract.

As a result of the CMA's intervention, suppliers have voluntarily agreed to provide compensation to affected customers. Eligible individuals have either already been contacted directly or will be contacted soon.

What this means for you: If you were a heating oil customer whose order was cancelled by a supplier through an intermediary site during a period of surging prices and restricted supply, you may be contacted directly regarding compensation.
