The Toronto International Film Festival is set to sizzle with a smouldering hot lineup of world premieres, bringing together an A-list cast of Hollywood heavyweights, including Dame Helen Mirren and Seth Rogen. It's shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events on this year's cinematic calendar – and we can't wait! With September just around the corner, TIFF is poised to launch a slew of films that will likely leave critics in awe and Oscar hopefuls scrambling for their place at the table.
Dame Helen Mirren is about to give audiences a masterclass in menace as she takes on the role of enigmatic author Patricia Highsmith in 'A Talent for Murder'. Alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who's playing a literary agent trying to persuade Highsmith to pen another Ripley novel, this gripping thriller promises to be an absolute must-see. With Anton Corbijn at the helm – he's the mastermind behind 'Control' and 'A Most Wanted Man' – you can bet your bottom dollar that Mirren will be giving a performance for the ages.
Meanwhile, Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick are about to bring the laughs as they star in 'Babies', a comedy-drama written and directed by Rogen's wife, Lauren Miller Rogen. With Issa Rae, Kate Berlant, Sharon Stone, and many more joining the party, this film is shaping up to be one of the festival's funniest and most talked-about releases. And if you thought that was all, Chris Rock returns with 'Misty Green', a Hollywood-set comedy from A24 that follows an actor trying to make a comeback after personal struggles. With Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and British star Rosalind Eleazar all on board, this film is bound to pack a punch.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! Other notable premieres include 'I Play Rocky', which delves into the making of Sylvester Stallone's iconic film; Courteney Cox's second directorial effort, the crime thriller 'Evil Genius'; and Rebel Wilson's follow-up project, 'Girl Group', starring Jennifer Coolidge and a whole host of other big names. John Madden, who brought us 'Shakespeare in Love', also brings his latest offering, 'Onwards and Sideways', featuring Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans.
And that's not all – Taron Egerton stars in the comedy thriller 'Everybody Wants to Fuck Me'; Amanda Seyfried takes on a role in the prison drama 'The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd'; while James McAvoy teams up with Erin Doherty in the supernatural drama 'Faith'. Japanese director Takashi Miike presents 'Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo', starring Lily James, while British audiences can anticipate Cynthia Erivo's big-screen adaptation of hit stage drama 'Prima Facie'. It's going to be a wild ride – and we can't wait to see what these films bring!
